SAINTED: The Ice swept the USHL's second best team with back to back victories over the Dubuque Fighting Saints last weekend from Pepsi Coliseum. Christian Hilbrich (2G) and Jake Fallon (3A) led the offense, while Jon Gillies made 26 saves in Friday's 6-1 rout of Dubuque. Sean Kuraly took control of the goal-scoring on Saturday with his first career hat trick in a 3-2 decision over the "Saints." Gillies proved his mettle between the pipes once again tying his season-high with 41 saves.
MAD HATTER: Sean Kuraly found twine three times on Saturday producing the Ice's first hat trick of the season and 16th in franchise history. His three-goal evening was his team-leading third three-or-more point game of the year and third multiple goal game as well. He is tied with Daniil Tarasov for the team-lead in goals (13) and has 12 points (9G, 3A) in his last seven games.
J. GILLIES BAND: Jon Gillies was an absolute "rock" in net over the weekend as his two-win, 67-save effort pushed him into first in the USHL in wins (12) and in a tie for second in save percentage (.922) among league goaltenders. In his last seven starts in net, he has produced 246 saves and his win on Saturday was his 27th victory in an Ice uniform tying him with former goaltender Scott Darling for third in all-time wins. The team's all-time wins leader is Brett Bennett who posted 35 victories in 2008-09.
OCCUPY INDY: With 12 points (2G, 10A) in the two wins, the line of Daniil Tarasov (2nd, 30 pts), Jake Fallon (T-4th, 26 pts) and Robbie Baillargeon (T-19th, 19 pts) sit in the top 19 in scoring in the USHL. Tarasov registered four points (G, 3A) which moved him into fourth all-time in franchise history in points (105) and he is now one goal shy of the all-time record for markers (51) set by former forward Garrett Roe. Fallon moved into second in the league in assists (18) after a four-dish weekend, while Baillargeon compiled multiple-point outings both evenings.
TEAM REGISTER: A USHL season-high 6,533 fans showed up Saturday...Christian Hilbrich has four goals in his last six games...RJ Boyd has a helper in two straight games...The Ice is 14-2-0 all-time when a player nets a hat trick...Indy is first in the USHL on the power play at home, on the road and overall.
CAPITAL CARLSON: After recording seven points (G, 6A) last week, former Ice d-man and current Washington Capital John Carlson (07-08) has moved into a tie for sixth among NHL defensemen in scoring with 20 points for the year. The leader is Ottawa's Erik Karlsson with 25 points.
