Yaussi Earns Second Player of the Week Nod

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Colorado Ice star kicker, Deric Yaussi, has been named as the United Indoor Football League's Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time this season. He earned the honor after a strong performance in the regular season finale at the Budweiser Events Center Saturday, July 14. Yaussi went 4-of-6 on field goals (24, 34, 45 and league record 60-yarder), 4-of-4 on extra points and had eight kickoffs for 364 yards. Despite his effort, the Ice fell to the Omaha Beef 43-40 by a last second field goal.

Yaussi was also honored as Special Teams Player of the Week in Week One when a last minute field goal pushed the Ice over the Billings Outlaws 26-25 in their inaugural season home opener on March 23. A Fort Collins, Colo. native, Yaussi played for the University of Wyoming, earning national recognition as a kicker. Earlier this season he was also invited to try out for the AFL's San Jose SaberCats.

With the win, Omaha secured the #3 seed in the Western Conference Playoffs. Number four seed Colorado (6-9) will travel to Sioux Falls Saturday, July 21, to face the Storm (15-0) in the first round. The Storm are riding a 35-game consecutive win streak, backed by two United Bowl Championships. Kickoff is set for 7:05 p.m. CT/6:05 p.m. MT at Sioux Falls Arena.

Colorado Earns Six All-Star Selections

Omaha, Neb. - United Indoor Football (UIF) announced today the selections for the first UIF All-Star game Saturday, August 18 in Bloomington, IL. UIF has made All-Star selections in the past with first and second team selections, but this year votes were cast for Eastern Conference All-Stars and Western Conference All-Stars to create 25-man rosters for both squads. While coaches and media have voted in the past, this year fan balloting was added to the mix.

More than 3,400 fan ballots were e-mailed July 6. When the fan balloting finished Monday, July 16, more than 1,400 had been received. UIF Communications Director, Dave Holly, was impressed with the fan balloting. "We were very pleased with the number of ballots cast by the fans and how in-tune with the coaches and media the fans are. They voted the same two quarterbacks in the Western Conference in the same order-Sioux Falls' Terrance Bryant and Billings' Chris Dixon. They also voted for the same two quarterbacks in the Eastern Conference, but had Dusty Burk ahead of Ben Sankey."

Sioux City linebacker Spetlar Tonga was the overall fan favorite, receiving a total of 554 votes. Burk was the top vote getter in the Eastern Conference with 352 ahead of Sankey's 319. Sioux Falls defensive lineman Nate Fluit had the second highest Western Conference vote tally with 348-third highest overall.
