Indiana Ice News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Ice announced today that defenseman Torey Krug and goaltender Brett Bennett were selected as the USHL's Defensive Player and Goaltender of the Week respectively.
Krug tallied a goal, two assists and seven shots in a pair of weekend wins over Fargo. He set up the game-winner in Friday's game and followed that outing with a goal and an assist in Saturday's 6-2 victory. The native of Livonia, MI is making his USHL debut this season after playing last year with the successful Compuware program in metro Detroit.
Bennett, who spent last season at Boston University, turned back 25 of 26 shots in Friday's win over Fargo. He enters this week's action second in the league in goals-against-average (2.01) and first in save percentage (.932). The Williamsville, NY native was a 2006 NHL Draft Pick of the Phoenix Coyotes.
The Ice (2-1-0) remains at home this weekend for a pair of 7:30 p.m. games Friday and Saturday night at Pepsi Coliseum. The team hosts the Waterloo Black Hawks on Friday and the Des Moines Buccaneers on Saturday evening.
