Ice participate in Futures Draft today

INDIANAPOLIS, IN- The Indiana Ice made six selections this morning in the USHL's 2005 Futures Draft. The futures draft consists of each team selecting four US Born athletes and two Canadian born athletes to fill a six-man futures roster in which each member team will hold the players rights for one calendar year.

The Ice's 2005 selections included four forwards and two defensemen with the Ice making defenseman Nigel Williams its first pick (second overall).

"He's a big strong defenseman (6-5, 220) with exceptional skating ability," said Ice Head Coach Dean Grillo.

Rounding out the six player group were forwards Joe Whitney, Tony Mosey, James Hayes, Bradley Malone and defenseman Ngai Wilson.

"I am very pleased with our selections," added Grillo. "Our staff put a lot of effort and time into this draft and it is always fun to get the players that you covet the most."

The Ice plays two preseason games this weekend at the Carmel Ice Skadium. The team will host the Chicago Steel at 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Both games are general admission seating with a $5 ticket price and portions of the proceeds will go to the Indiana Youth Hockey Association.

Joe Whitney: Forward is playing for Lawrence Academy in Massachusetts this season....Has a commitment to Boston College for 2007

Tony Mosey: Joins Nigel Williams as a forward for the USNTDP U-18 squad this year

James Hayes: Forward is playing for Noble & Greenough this year....Was a teammate over the summer with current Ice defenseman Tristin Llewellyn on the winning United States Under-17 Select Team that competed in August in the Five Nations Tournament in Huttwil, Switzerland

Bradley Malone: Big forward is playing for Cushing Academy this season...Was the first pick in the 2005 QMJHL draft this past season and is the cousin of current Pittsburgh Penguin Ryan Malone

Ngai Wilson: Skilled defenseman is playing this year for the Wexford Raiders of the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League
