Ice Miners Take First of Exhibition Series against Richmond Generals

CONNELLSVILLE, PA - Jonathan Stickel scored three goals and added two assists, while Taylor Fernandez and Ben Mello posted four points each in the Ice Miners 9-2 victory of the USPHL Richmond Generals on Friday night at the Ice Mine.

Fernandez scored the lone goal of the first period just 18 seconds into the game, taking a feed from Stickel and setting the tone early. The Ice Miners scored a quick goal again in the second period when Stickel netted a goal at the 25-second mark. Cameron Smith score an unassisted goal at 10:56 of the period to make it 3-0 Ice Miners. Richmond got on the board at 15:20 of the second period when Steven Ralston found the back of the net. Stickel answered with his second goal of the game less than a minute later.

Leading 4-1 after two periods, Keystone poured it on in the 3rd, getting goals from Mello, Stickel, Brian Hodges, Scott Donahue, and Lordanthony Grissom. Thomas Godfrey found the back of the net for Richmond's 2nd goal. Final shot toals were 45-13 in favor of the Ice Miners. The two teams will play again Saturday night at 7:30 at the Ice Mine. Gates will open at 6:30 and tickets can be purchased at the door for $3.
