Keystone Ice Miners News Release

JOHNSTOWN, PA - The Ice Miners gave away 2-0 and 3-2 leads in an eventual 4-3 shootout loss Thursday morning in Johnstown. It appeared Keystone would escape with a regulation win, but after Taylor Fernandez couldn't finish an empty netter, Casey Linkenheld was able to tie the game with only 6 seconds reamining in the 3rd.

It was the Ice Miners that got off to a fast start, scoring the only two goals of the first period. Michael Maiden potted his 4th of the season at 4:19 from Matt Jones and Niko Coffman. Maiden then set up Jones for his 12th at 18:57 and it was 2-0 Keystone through one.

Nick Kossoff sparkled through most of the 2nd period until Johnstown finally broke through at 16:37 when Tanner Barnes pushed a rebound past him. Less than three minutes later, Alex Jaeckle buried a powerplay goal to knot the score at 2. It was 2-2 through 40 minutes of action.

Early in the 3rd, the Ice Miners would regain their lead when Joey Sofo broke away from the neutral zone and made a slick backnand move on Ryan Bednard to make the score 3-2. Johnstown got Linkenheld's goal out of a net-mouth scramble in the final seconds to send the game to overtime.

After a scoreless OT period, Trevor Recktenwald was the only man among 10 shooters to score and the Tomahawks claimed victory. Johnstown moved into sole possession of 3rd in the North Division with 45 points while Keystone extended its point streak to nine games. Johnstown will host Soo this weekend while the Ice Minrs return home to host Janesville. Tickets start as low as $7 and are available at keystoneiceminershockey.com. Fans can also purchase a "final four pack" - two tickets to each of the final four regular season games (March 18th, 20th, 21st, 27th) for just $40.
