Keystone Ice Miners News Release
CONNELLSVILLE, PA - It took 40 combined shooters to find a winner, but Jacob Coleman's goal in the bottom of the 20th round lifted the Keystone Ice Miners to a 2-1 win over the Johnstown Tomahawks on Saturday night at the Ice Mine.
In regulation, both goals were scored in the 2nd period. Johnstown's Brady Bender, who has both of goals this season at the Ice Mine, scored just 51 seconds into the frame. Zach Robbins and Luke Lynch assisted on the four-on-four tally. Keystone tied it up late in the period when Jon Hall scored his seventh goal of the season, set up by Taylor Fernandez and Jacob Coleman.
After a scoreless third period and overtime, the two teams played a lengthy shootout. Among the first five shooters, Casey Linkenheld and Austin Romzek each scored. In the 11th round, it appeared Cameron Smith had won the game but the officials ruled the puck had come to a stop and Smith touched it twice. In round 14, Alex Jaeckle and Alex Archibald traded goals to keep the shootout going. The 18th round saw Brady Bender score before Smith tied it up with his 2nd attempt of the shootout. Finally, after Alex Blankenburg stopped Luke Lynch in the 20th round, Coleman beat Ryan Bednard to end the game.
Bednard stopped 32 of 33 shots in regularion while Blankenburg stopped 28 or 29 for his 8th victory. Keystone will next host the Kenai River Brown Bears on December 30th and 31st at the Ice Mine.
