Keystone Ice Miners News Release
Connellsville, PA -The Keystone Ice Miners, proud members of the North American Hockey League, completed their first ever tryout camp at the Fraser Hockeyland Arena over the weekend. After a successful weekend, 34 players received invitations to the team's Main Tryout Camp in July.
Of the players to advance to the final camp, the Ice Miners invited 18 forwards, nine defensemen and seven goaltenders. The selected players come from high schools, midget programs and lower-level junior leagues across the country.
Two players from camp earned the teams final two tenders for the 2014-15 season after goaltender Nick Kassoff was tendered on Wednesday. Austin Ziakas and Dylan Sobcyk earned their tenders after impressing the coaching staff with their play during the weekend.
"The level of play we saw this weekend was excellent. There was much more speed and skill than we anticipated, and we are looking forward to seeing their process from the end of May to the end of July at our Main Camp," said Michael Gershon, Ice Miners Head Coach and General Manager.
"The players we've selected from camp showed us that we are going to have a lot of tough choices at Main Camp and we're all looking forward to seeing how they compete with our returning guys, our tenders and our draft picks."
The Ice Miners' Main Tryout Camp will take place July 30- Aug 3 in Connellsville, PA. There will be no charge for fans to watchthe team's final tryout camp.
The Ice Miners start their inaugural season in Connellsville in September, but there is a lot of exciting ticket and sponsorship opportunities throughout the summer.
