Indiana Ice News Release

FOUL WEATHER: The Indiana Ice ran into some "foul weather" in Kearney, NE this weekend as the Tri-City Storm captured a pair of wins over the defending champs. The Ice did manage to pick up a point on Saturday in the 4-3 overtime loss to Tri-City.

"FINN"TASTIC: Finnish forward Antti Roppo has sparked the team offensively in the first three games of the season with four goals and an assist to lead the club. He has a point in all three games and has two multiple goal games already this year. His five points in three games is also tied for second-best in Ice USHL history behind only the six points in three games by Garrett Roe (St. Cloud) at the start of the

2006-07 season.

FIRST PERIOD WOES: The first period of games has been troublesome for the Ice in the first two weeks of the regular season as the team has managed just one goal in the opening frame, compared to nine markers in the second and third periods.

HOME OPENINGS: The Ice owns a 3-2-0 all-time clip for their home openers, but is coming off a 4-2 loss to Cedar Rapids in last year's curtain riser from the Pepsi Coliseum. Grant Blakey (Mercyhurst) scored both Indy goals in last season's opening loss, while Shane Berschbach handed out an assist on both Blakey' markers.

TEAM FILINGS: Roppo and Berschbach have seven of the team's ten goals to start the year....Taylor Boldt has an assist in two consecutive games...David Johnstone notched his first USHL goal in Saturday's game against Tri-City....Goaltender Casey DeSmith stopped 71 shots in the two weekend games against the Storm...The Ice has killed off 13 of their opponents' 14 power play chances to begin the season...Indiana and Cedar Rapids are the only two USHL teams yet to play a home game this year.

ALUMNI WAVES: Mike Cichy (2008-09) posted three points (G, 2A) and a (+4) plus/minus in North Dakota's weekend sweep of Merrimack...Kyle Bonis (2007-08) recorded a goal and an assist in Ferris State's 5-1 win over Canisius Friday...Kyle Page (2005-06) had two points (G, A) for Bowling Green in a 3-2 loss to Minnesota State on Friday.
