TALES FROM THE ROAD: The Indiana Ice wrapped up their final road trip of the 2012-2013 season last week with a trio of games against the Chicago Steel and the Dubuque Fighting Saints. The Ice and Steel traded three goals each until Chicago potted the final two markers of the night in Wednesday's 5-3 loss from the Edge Ice Arena. Tyler Pham lit the lamp twice, while Jason Salvaggio added the Ice's third goal in the contest. Salvaggio also scored the lone goal in Friday's 8-1 loss to Dubuque from the Mystique Community Ice Center. On Saturday, a last-minute comeback attempt was foiled by the Saints as the Ice fell to the league leaders 4-2. Matt Roy and Josh Jacobs registered the goals for Indy.

YOUTH OF THE NATION: Patrick Newell has been a steady presence offensively as the 17-year-old forward from Thousand Oaks, CA is riding a four-game assist streak which includes seven helpers. The four-game assist streak ties him with Zach Aman and Mikhail Plotnikov for the longest assist streak for the Ice this season and his overall numbers since joining the Ice include 12 points (2G, 10A) in 16 contests.

PLAYER JETS: Matt Roy recorded his first USHL goal in Saturday's 4-2 loss at Dubuque...Alex Talcott has three points in his last five games...Mikhail Plotnikov has 11 points (9G, 2A) in his last ten games... Jason Salvaggio has three goals in his last five games...Zach Aman, Dalton Izyk and Rinat Valiev join Alex Smith as players out with injuries and done for the season....Chase Munroe (Indiana Jr. Ice U18) and Tyger Howat (Victory Honda U18) have served as emergency goaltenders for the club...Affiliate players Blake Siebenaler, Laythe Jadallah and Austin Swingle all saw time with the Ice last weekend.

TEAM OPERATIONS: Indy leads the league in the penalty kill on home ice (86.2%) and is sixth overall (83.4%)...The Ice is the least penalized team in the league per game (13.00)...Indy is 3-0-0 against Team USA U17 this season, but just 1-7-1 against Youngstown...The Ice has successfully killed off 30 of their last 33 penalties.

FROZEN FOUR ACTION: Five Ice alums will have the opportunity to play for the NCAA Championship as the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, PA hosts the 2013 Frozen Four Championship on Thursday, April 11 and Saturday, April 13. Ryan Obuchowski and the Yale Bulldogs will battle UMass-Lowell at 4:30 pm on Thursday while Alex and Loren Barron (Quinnipiac) will face off against Nic Dowd and Jarrod Rabey (St. Cloud State) in the semifinals at 8:00 pm to decide Saturday's 7:00 pm championship match.

NHL SPEAKING: Former Ice defenseman Torey Krug (08-09) was called up last week by the Boston Bruins and recorded an assist in last Wednesday's game against the Montreal Canadiens. Krug has spent the majority of the year with Boston's affiliate in Providence, RI where he is the team's top scoring defenseman. Defenseman Cameron Schilling (07-08) made his NHL debut a couple weeks ago with Washington, while John Carlson (06-08) is in his third full season with the Capitals.
