Darge's Hat Trick Boosts Dayton over Dashers, 9-2
Wehebe Darge netted a hat trick to lead the Dayton Demonz over the Danville Dashers, 9-2.
Darge's first goal came 3:30 into the first period. He then added goals at 13:01 into the first and at 5:14 into the second.
Dayton made Dashers' netminders to work between the pipes, ripping 39 shots and forcing 30 saves. Nick Niedert made 29 stops and Jeromy Semtner made one.
Dayton also got points from Jared Hicks, who also finished with one goal and two assists, August Aiken, who also registered one goal and two assists, Anthony Battaglia, who also grabbed one goal and three assists, Ahmed Mahfouz, who also had one goal and two assists, and Michael Desjarlais, who also finished with one goal and three assists. Jesse Felten also scored for Dayton. In addition, Dayton received assists from Justin Brausen and Len Pelletier, who contributed one a piece.
Danville forced the Demonz goalie Tony Tabisz to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. The Dashers struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 78 penalty minutes for eight opposing power plays. The leading offender was Joe Pace, who totaled 26 minutes in penalty time with three minors, two majors and a game misconduct. Danville was held back by its power play unit, which tallied two goals on 10 chances. The Dashers relied heavily on their defensemen to assist their forwards, and the blueliners responded by scoring two goals on 15 shots.
Danville was led by Ryan Huggett, who registered one goal. Huggett scored on the power play 9:47 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Dashers earned a power play opportunity when Felten was put in the box for roughing. Ryan Stern picked up the assist. Danville also got a goal from James Gordon as well. More assists for Danville came via Ryan Alves, Justin Barr, and Matt Dietrich, who each chipped in one.
Dayton's Tabisz stopped 35 shots out of the 37 that he faced.
The two teams switch sites tomorrow as the Demonz host the Dashers in their home opener at Hara Arena; game time is 7:35 PM.
