Bluefins Fall to Demonz in Inaugural Home Game at Cortland

By Zach Eisen

Playing their first home game in New York for the first time since moving from Cape Cod, the New York Bluefins were unable to fend off the first place Dayton Demonz, falling by a score of 9-7.

Luke Flicek started off the scoring for the Demonz with a power play goal at 6:29 of the first period. Christian Beaudry answered with a power play goal of his own for the Fins less than two minutes later. Penalties continued to hurt New York when Lucas Schott tallied one on the man advantage for Dayton.

The Demonz's 2-1 advantage wouldn't last long, however, as the Bluefins responded with a burst of 3 goals in the final two minutes of the period. Michael Fransen and Michael Guerra both scored, followed by Steven Drizis' goal with six seconds remaining in the period.

The Fins took a 4-2 lead over the first place team into the second period, but couldn't hold on for long. Beaudry gave the Fins a 6-5 lead later on in the period, but Hill responded with his second of the night to even the score at 6.

The third period got off to a quick start, with Jason Hill completing his hat trick just 1:24 into the period. Flicek also earned a hat trick, while later Hill found the back of the net for his fourth of the night to make it 9-6.

It was a valiant effort for the struggling Bluefins, going up against the dominant first-place Demonz. It was the first game for the Bluefins in New York since leaving their former home in Cape Cod. They will be playing home games in various arenas around New York for the remainder of the season.
