Smyth Extends Scoring Streak In Outlaws Win Over Dashers

WILLIAMSPORT - Matt Smyth and Rob Sich both tallied hat-tricks in the Outlaws 8-2 win over the Danville Dashers in front of a rocking packed house at Airmen Pond at Historic Bowman Field.

Newly added Jeff Winchester made his presence known early with his first goal and point with the Outlaws this season at the 5:02 mark of the first period, with the Outlaws on the power play. Matt Smyth picked up the second assist to extend his point streak to seven games.

Ryan Huggett beat Chris Whitley moments later to tie the game for the Dashers, but the tie didn't last long as Rob Sich would knock home a garbage goal on the power play to give the Outlaws a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission.

Smyth continued the scoring for the Outlaws with two consecutive goals in the second period, to give the Outlaws a 4-1 lead. Rob Sich would tally his second goal in the later stages of the period to give the Outlaws a 5-1 lead.

Jamie Zaleski scored his fourth goal of the season, and fourth game in three games to give the Outlaws a 6-1 lead heading into the second intermission.

The second period saw three fights in the matter of a minute, as the frustration and the hard hitting style of play boiled over.

Looking for their first hat-trick of the season as a team, the Outlaws didn't have to wait long into the third period, as Smyth would notch his third goal, and fourth point of the night at the :36 mark of the period giving the Outlaws a 7-1 lead.

Moments later, Sich would beat the goaltender for his third goal of the night, and the Outlaws first shorthanded goal and point of the season. Chris Leveille got the first shorthanded assist on the play.

Chris Whitley was stellar between the pipes, turning away 41 of 43 Danville shots in the win.

The Outlaws were 4 for 5 on the penalty kill and were a perfect 4 for 4 on the power play against Danville.

Dayton uses shootout to best 1000 Islands, 2-1 (3-2 SO)

Jesse Felten scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Dayton Demonz picked up the extra point in a 2-1 (3-2 SO) win over the 1000 Islands Privateers.

The shootout lasted for 12 attempts between the teams. 1000 Islands' shootout goals were scored by Brent Tamane and Peter Campbell. In addition to the clincher, Dayton got shootout goals from Marcus Pryde and Jason Hill.

The Demonz came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Dayton trailed 1-0 after a goal by the Privateers' Carter Trevisani at 2:29 in the first period. The Demonz knotted things up at 1-1 on a goal by Brayden Metz at 58 seconds in the second period.

1000 Islands was stymied by Dayton netminder Jeff Rose, who stopped 33 shots during the victory. Rose certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.38 entering the contest.

The Demonz put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Privateers to score on any of their three power plays. With 48 shots on target during the contest, Dayton exceeded the 41.1 shots it averages per game this year.

More assists for Dayton came via Hill and Pryde, who contributed one a piece.

1000 Islands forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and two majors for 24 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 21.0 minutes per game the Privateers had been spending in the box. 1000 Islands' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Dayton power plays. The Privateers' offense operated below their season average. 1000 Islands averages 3.4 goals per game. The Demonz were unable to stop the Privateers from sending pucks towards the net, and 1000 Islands eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

In addition, 1000 Islands received assists from Tamane and Zak Ray, who each chipped in one.

Dayton ended with 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors. Matt Anthony made 46 saves for the Privateers on 47 shots.

Whalers defeat Bluefins 6-3

FALMOUTH, MA - A wild third period saw six goals and the Danbury Whalers defeat the Cape Cod Bluefins 6-3 at the Falmouth Ice Arena tonight. Danbury scored twice in the first period before Casey Mignone cut it to 2-1 in the second. The Whalers extended the lead but the Bluefins tied it with 2 goals from Stephen Drizis and Kevin McCready. A controversial no-call on an icing led to Max Mobley's go-ahead goal, his first of two in the period. Fans who came out to see Falmouth native Tyler Howe cheered him loudly whenever he had a big hit. He had an assist on McCready's goal. The Bluefins are back in action tomorrow night at Gallo Arena in Bourne against 1000 Islands at 7:35 PM.
