New Jersey Outlaws Defeat the Brooklyn Aviators 4-3 in a Shootout

Wayne,NJ- The New Jersey Outlaws took on the Brooklyn Aviators for the second game of a home and home series. This was a fantastic game. The Outlaws were trailing 2-0 after one period, the Outlaws tied it up with two quick goals in the second period. In the third period the Aviators scored a goal to take the lead and held a 3-2 lead for most of the period. The Outlaws tied the game with 1:59 to go in the third period. The game went to a five minute overtime where it is three on three but no one scored and it went to a shootout.

The goals were scored by Jesse Felten and Lucas Schott. Kevin Cooper scored the Outlaws first goal on a power play and Lawne Snyder tied the game at two on a power play goal. Casey Mignone scored the go ahead goal for the Aviators and Nathan Oke scored the goal to tie it at three. The shootout saw only one goal as the Outlaws scored on their fourth chance by Trevor Karasiewicz.

It was a pretty clean game as there were only a couple of skirmishes and not many penalties. The shots on goal were 44 for the Outlaws and 38 for the Aviators. The penalty minutes were 13 for each team. The Outlaws magic number to clinch a playoff spot dropped to 17 with the win. The Outlaws next game will be on Monday afternoon against the Danville Dashers. The win was the Outlaws ninth straight.

In Short, Whalers Dominate Dashers 5-1

DANBURY, CT -

The Danbury Whalers have done a strong job this season of killing penalties and turning these shorthanded situations into scoring opportunities. Tonight against Danville, it reached an apex. The Whalers broke a league record with four shorthanded goals in a 5-1 win over the Dashers at the Danbury Ice Arena. The Whalers completed a sweep of the four-game homestand and strengthened their grip on third place in the Federal Hockey League Standings.

The Whalers couldn't convert on their first two power plays but did open scoring shorthanded. Kelly Miller set a new Federal Hockey League record with his fifth shorthanded goal on the season and 15th overall. Lynn Beedle got the lone assist at 17:11. Alec Kirschner matched his teammate's mark at 2:03 of the second period, as Martin Moucha and James Kirkwood got the assists on Kirschner's 22nd of the year. Jay Meloff made his first professional game memorable, as he scored his first professional goal from Kirschner and Matt Moffat at 13:28 to make the game 3-0. James Sanford scored his 3rd of the season, another shorthanded tally for the Whalers, at 15:25 from Kirschner and Beedle. This prompted a goalie change by both sides, as Brenton Lindoff took over for the Dashers, while Matt Trusz replaced Peter Vetri in net. Dustin Skinner prevented the shutout, but Matt Caranci gave Danbury their fourth shorthanded goal of the night. Caranci's eight of the season earned an assist for Greg Holt at 16:52. Vetri got the win, his 11th of the season and fourth in a row.

The Whalers return to road play next week, facing Cape Cod on Friday night and New Jersey on Saturday. Danbury returns to the Ice Arena on Saturday the 28th to take on the Brooklyn Aviators.
