Huntsville Channel Cats News Release
Huntsville, AL â The Knoxville Ice Bears got 48 saves from goalie, Jason Tapp, on their way to a 4-0 shutout of the Huntsville Channel Cats in front of 2,833 fans at the Von Braun Center Thursday night.
Bob Rangus scored Knoxville's first goal at the 3:06 mark of the first period. Brad Bourhis and K.J. Vorhees got the assist. Brendan Fleming added another first period goal at the 14:24 mark with an assist from Nolan Wier.
Craig Desjarlais scored at the 18:10 mark in the third period with an assist from Vorhees. Tom McMonagle added the final goal at the 19:31 mark with an assist from Desjarlais.
Knoxville had 44 penalty minutes that led to six power play opportunities for the Cats but the Ice Bears killed all six. Knoxville was 0-4 in power play chances.
Tapp was named the number one star of the game, while Rangus was the number two and Flemming was the number three.
Tapp stopped 11 shots in the first period, 15 in the second and 22 in the third to get the win.
The Channel Cats make the trip to Knoxville tomorrow night for a rematch.
