Ice Bats Re-Sign All-Star Goalie
July 27, 2006 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Austin Ice Bats News Release
The Austin Ice Bats of the Central Hockey League today announced that goaltender Miguel Beaudry has been re-signed to contract for the 2006-07 season, the Ice Bats' first at Chaparral Ice Arena. With the signing of Beaudry, the Ice Bats now have seven players officially under contract for the coming season.
The 24-year-old Beaudry, a native of Verner, Ontario, returns for his fourth pro season, his second with the Ice Bats. Beaudry began his pro career with two seasons at New Mexico, playing for current Ice Bats Coach Bill McDonald. While with the Scorpions, he was the winning goalie at the 2005 CHL All-Star Game.
Beaudry began last season playing with Memphis, but was acquired by the Ice Bats in a trade just before Christmas. Beaudry finished 12-8-1 with a 2.83 goals-against average and three shutouts in 22 appearances with the Ice Bats. And he was the Sher-wood CHL Goalie of the Month for January, with a 5-0-1 record, 1.93 GAA and .946 save percentage during the month.
"Last year, Miguel Beaudry and Miroslav Kopriva turned our season around," said Ice Bats Coach Bill McDonald. "And when Miro got called back up, Beaudry kept it going. He's a proven goalie in this league that we're counting on to win us games. He's very quick in net, and a great teammate in the locker room."
"We'll need two quality goalies, because no one can play four games in five nights or three in three," McDonald said. "But if Miguel gains a little bit more consistency, there's no reason why he can't eat up a lot of minutes for us and win his share of games."
The Ice Bats will begin their 11th season at the all-new Chaparral Ice Arena, located on I-35 between Howard Lane and Wells Branch Parkway. The team's first home game for the 2006-07 season has been scheduled for Saturday, October 21st, with the remainder of the CHL schedule to be released in early August.
Season tickets and corporate partnerships for the '06-'07 campaign are currently available, with full-season and half-season ticket plans on sale now. Fans may call the Ice Bats ticket office at (512) 927-PUCK, or log onto the team's website at www.icebats.com for more information.
