Ice announce 2005-06 regular season schedule

Cranbrook, BC - Jeff Chynoweth, General Manager of the Kootenay ICE Hockey Club, today released the Club's 2005-2006 Western Hockey League regular season schedule. Kootenay will open their eighth season in Cranbrook at home. The home opener is scheduled for Friday, September 23 when the ICE host the Tri-City Americans. Kootenay will play a 72 game schedule (36 at home and 36 on the road) concluding Saturday, March 18, 2006 versus Spokane.

In its fifth year, the divisional format will see the ICE play the BC Division teams a total of eighteen times, Kamloops and Kelowna five times each (two at home, three on the road), and Vancouver and Prince George four times each (two at home, two on the road). In the US Division, Kootenay will play Spokane eight times (four at home, four on the road), Tri-City four times (two at home, two on the road) and Seattle, Portland and Everett two times each (one at home, one on the road). In the Central Division, the ICE will face Calgary and Red Deer seven times (four at home, three on the road), Lethbridge five times (three at home, two on the road), Medicine Hat four times (two at home, two on the road) and Swift Current three times (one at home, two on the road). Kootenay will play each team in the East Division (Brandon, Moose Jaw, Prince Albert, Regina and Saskatoon) twice (one at home, one on the road).

Of their 36 home games, the ICE will play 29 of them on weekends and holidays. Kootenay will play 13 games on Saturday, eight on Friday and six on Sunday. The remaining games will be played on Tuesday (six), Wednesday (two) and Thursday (one).

Start times at the Cranbrook Recreation Complex will remain the same with all Tuesday to Saturday games starting at 7:00 pm, while all Sunday home games will start at 6:00 pm. The exception is as follows: Saturday, December 31 versus the Regina Pats (New Year's Eve) will be played at 6:00 pm.
