Huw Williams Resigns as General Manager

KANSAS CITY - FC Kansas City announced this afternoon that Huw Williams has resigned as the General Manager. Williams, a part of the team since the inaugural season is leaving to focus on his other business opportunities, including GSI Sports, a sports management and travel services company with ties to soccer camps and tournaments across the country.

Williams has been with FC Kansas City since the team was founded in 2013. Originally hired to be Vlatko Andonovski's assistant coach, he quickly moved into team and player development and was named General Manager in the midst of the 2014 season.

"Huw has been a critical part of this organization from day one," said team owner Brad Likens. "We imagine he will continue to support women's soccer and the team and we look forward to the next chapter."

Working with Andonovski, Williams was never afraid to do what he felt would make the Blues better. In the past four years he was able to acquire the talents of some of the greatest players in the league and to introduce future stars to soccer fans across Kansas City and the rest of the country. His roster management was crucial to the Blues winning back-to-back NWSL Championships in 2014 and 2015.

Andonovski said "There are not words that can explain how thankful I am for everything that Huw did for this organization, team and especially for me personally. He has been my mentor from day one and helped me grow as a coach throughout these four years. I'm sad that he decided to go, but at the same time I'm happy for him and his new opportunity."

In addition to his work with FC Kansas City, Williams has been heavily involved with his other company GSI Sports. Rather than splitting his time between the two organizations, he will be focusing on growing the other company. However, he will always be a part of FC Kansas City's history.

"I've loved being a part of this venture since the beginning," said Williams. "I wish nothing but the best for Vlatko and the team and the NWSL. I have learned so much and made many lifelong friends in the past four years. I will miss being here every day, but I will be a Blues fan for life."
