Lethbridge, AB - The Hurricanes returned from nine days off to take a single point out of the home of third ranked team in the CHL this weekend as they battled the Saskatoon Blades to a 3-2 shootout loss on Friday night. The game was the second meeting between the two clubs with both ending in extra time as their first meeting of the season resulted in a 3-2 overtime loss in Lethbridge. The Canes then followed that up with a 6-1 loss to the Prince Albert Raiders from the Art Hauser Centre in Prince Albert. Lethbridge took one of a possible four points last week to bring their overall record to 8-15-3-1.

Captain Carter Bancks continues to lead the team with 27 points (8G, 19A) and WHL rookie Mitch Maxwell leads all Canes rookies with 19 points (13G, 6A). Maxwell, along with Carter Ashton lead all Canes goal scorers with 13. Rookie goaltender Brandon Anderson raised his save percentage to 0.898 this weekend despite the pair of losses while rookie d-man Landon Oslanski continues to lead the team with a plus-4 +/- rating.

- Get Carter: Carter Ashton made his first appearance for Team WHL last week helping them to a 4-2 win in Game 6 to lock up a 6-0 sweep of the Russian Selects. Ashton became the Hurricanes sixth Team WHL selection in the past 3 seasons. (2007 - Zach Boychuk, Mitch Fadden, Ben Wright; 2008 - Zach Boychuk, Colton Sceviour)

- Special Teams: The Canes power play is 19th in the WHL with a 16.1% success rate; the penalty kill is 18th with a 75.7%

The Hurricanes will look to right the ship as they take on the Medicine Hat Tigers in Medicine Hat for the third time this season. This game marks the first of four games the Canes have against the Tigers in the month of December. In their last meeting in Medicine Hat, the Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Carter Bancks converted a penalty shot on the power play to pull the Canes within one. The Tigers would once again regain the two goal lead before then end of the second to give them a 3-1 lead to start the final frame. Carter Ashton would score just 30 seconds into the third to pull the Canes close, but it was not enough as the Tigers stifled the Cane offence outshooting Lethbridge 12-5 in the third and 33-21 on the night. Rookie Ville Kolpannen kept the Canes in it garnering the game's third star award with a solid 29 save performance.

14th Annual Canadian Tire Teddy Bear Toss

The Lethbridge Hurricanes and Canadian Tire will host the 14th Annual Teddy Bear Toss on this night with all the new stuffed animals and toys going to support local charities. Last season, Garrett Taylor tallied his first WHL goal on Dec.5/08 in a 5-0 win over the Red Deer Rebels in the 13th Annual Teddy Bear Toss. The goal at 5:56 of the first period sparked a shower of 3796 stuffed toys for donation to various local charities. This will also be Lethbridge's first opportunity to see highly touted Red Deer rookie Ryan Nugent-Hopkins as he continues to battle Canes rookie Mitch Maxwell for the WHL Rookie goal scoring title. Fans should also note that tickets are available as part of a special Teddy Bear Toss package along with a stuffed toy at Canadian Tire for just $12.99 (while supplies last, subject to availability)

The Tigers would once again regain the two goal lead before then end of the second to give them a 3-1 lead to start the final frame. Carter Ashton would score his 12th of the season just 30 seconds into the third to pull the Canes close, but it was not enough as the Tigers stifled the Cane offence outshooting Lethbridge 12-5 in the third and 33-21 on the night.
