
Hurricanes Snap 4-Game Losing Streak to the Mill Rats

(Saint John, NB): The Saint John Mill Rats had a 4-game winning streak over the division leading Halifax Hurricanes snapped with a 112-101 loss tonight at the Scotiabank Centre.
"Halifax has such a great front line," said Mill Rats Head Coach Rob Spon, "they just wore us down and shot a tremendous percentage from inside."
The first quarter the Mill Rats led 20-15 before a 12-0 run to close the quarter by the Hurricanes gave them a 27-20 lead.
In the second quarter, Saint John hung close and looked as if they might take a halftime lead, but Shane Gibson nailed two threes in the final minute to make sure Halifax stayed ahead 51-43 at the break.
The Mill Rats clawed their way back into the game in the third quarter 61-61, and won the quarter 32-29 to trail just 80-75 heading into the fourth.
In the final quarter the deficit was just 87-86 after Chris Smith nailed two free throws. After that the Hurricanes went on a tear, going on a 13-2 run to lead 100-88 with 2 minutes left. The Mill Rats kept even but were unable to mount a rally at the very end.
Anthony Anderson led Saint John with 29 points, Gabe Freeman had 22, Johnny Mayhane 18, and Chris Smith 11. Justin Johnson scored 23 for Halifax.
Saint John drops to 14-9 and Halifax improves to 16-7.
The Mill Rats will look to bounce back on Sunday at 4PM as they host the Island Storm.
