
Hurricanes Assign Ryan Murphy to Charlotte

RALEIGH, NC - Ron Francis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has assigned defenseman Ryan Murphy to the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL). Murphy is expected to return to game action in Charlotte's game on Saturday against Iowa, his first game action since suffering a concussion in Carolina's game against Philadelphia on Nov. 14.
Murphy, 22, has recorded four assists in 17 games played with Carolina this season. The Aurora, Ont., native is in his third full professional season, and has scored six goals and earned 23 assists (29 points) in 106 career NHL games with the Hurricanes. Murphy (5'11", 185 lbs.) has skated in 50 career AHL regular-season games with Charlotte, scoring three goals and earning 38 assists (41 points). The Hurricanes drafted Murphy in the first round, 12th overall, in the 2011 NHL Draft.
