Huntsville Sweeps Double-Header from Generals Saturday

JACKSON, TENN. - The Generals (17-12, 59-40) were swept in a double-header by the Huntsville Stars on Saturday in front of 4,102 fans at Pringles Park. Jackson dropped the first game 5-4 in 11 innings, and game two 7-1. The Generals now trail the Chattanooga Lookouts by a 1/2 game in the North Division. This is the first time the Generals have been swept in a doubleheader this season. The Stars win the season series taking 11 of the 19 meetings.

Game 1: Stars 5, Generals 4 (11 innings)

Huntsville scored in the first inning on an RBI single from Khris Davis. Jackson answered in the third inning with two runs on a double by Denny Almonte.

The Stars tied the game in the fourth inning when Scotter Gennett came home on a single by Domnit Bolivar.

In the fifth inning, the Generals tallied twice on back-to-back RBI doubles by Joe Dunigan and Rich Poythress (3x5, RBI). Huntsville retaliated in the seventh, scoring two runs on a single from T.J. Middelstaedt.

The game remained tied at four until the top of the eleventh. Huntsville's Kentrail Davis reached with a 1-out triple and later came home on a wild pitch by Generals reliever Mauricio Robles (L, 1-1).

Dan Merklinger (3-7) took the win for Huntsville, pitching hitless innings in the 10th and 11th while striking out three. LHP James Paxton threw six innings for Jackson, allowing four earned runs on seven hits. Paxton struck out four batters and walked three.

Game 2: Stars 7, Generals 1

Khris Davis scored the first two runs for Huntsville, with the first one coming in the second inning on his fourth home run of the year. Davis (4x4, 3 runs) tallied again in the fourth on an RBI double by Kentrail Davis.

Huntsville added two runs in the fifth, one in the sixth, and two more in the seventh. Jackson broke the shutout in the bottom of the seventh when Ralph Henriquez scored with two outs.

Henriquez and Leury Bonilla were the only Generals with multi-hit games, both going 2-for-3 on the night. Henriquez had the only extra-base hit for Jackson, a double in the seventh.

LHP Anthony Fernandez pitched 5.2 innings in his first loss in Double-A. Fernandez allowed five earned runs on ten hits. Huntsville reliever Kyle Heckathorn earned his third win of the year, allowing no runs in three innings of work.

The Generals will enjoy two days off before beginning a five-game series against the Montgomery Biscuits. Tuesday's first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Pringles Park. RHP Brandon Maurer (7-2, 3.74) will start for Jackson against RHP Alex Colome (6-3, 4.12) for Montgomery. Two For Tuesday specials will be available during the game.
