Huntsville Flight News Release

Huntsville, Ala. (Mar. 28) – The Huntsville Flight used a balance scoring attack with six players finishing in double figures to defeat the Columbus Riverdragons 98-93 at the Von Braun Center in tonight's NBDL action.

The Flight improves to 22-19, and is now one-and-a-half games out of first place. This is the fourth consecutive win for the Flight, tying its longest win streak, which was set at the beginning of the 2004 season when the Flight opened up 4-0. The Riverdragons fall to 16-25.

"I am happy with today's win," said Flight head coach Ralph Lewis. "This game could have gone either way. Fortunately for us, the shots fell when we needed them."

Down four at the 1:22 mark of the final period, Columbus' Jeff Myers converted two free throws to cut the Flight lead to two. Erick Barkley responded with a driving layup to give Huntsville a 95-91 lead with under a minute remaining. Riverdragon Sedric Webber sank a nifty five-footer to cut the lead back to two at the 00:24.5 mark. Myers then fouled Flight guard Alex Scales, sending him to the line where he converted one-of-two free throws to give Huntsville a three-point lead. Columbus forward Terrence Morris missed a 21-foot jump shot with nine seconds remaining and Courtney James committed a loose ball foul to send Scales back to the line. Scales connected on both shots giving the Flight a 98-93 edge.

The two teams exchanged baskets in the opening period and tied the game twice before the Flight used a 7-0 run - sparked by Barkley, who scored one basket and dished two assists in the last 50 seconds—to take a 24-17 lead. The Flight pushed the lead to 10 points (37-27) before the Riverdragons responded with a 14-4 run to tie the game at 41 with less than a minute remaining in the half. Flight center Earl Barron hit a lay-up to give Huntsville a two-point lead at the half.

Jeff Myers came off the bench to lead the Riverdragons with 24 points. He also posted four rebounds and eight assists. Sedric Webber scored 18 points and Erron Maxey tossed in 15.

Damone Brown came off the bench to lead the Flight with 22 points. Barkley scored 18 points. Scales scored 14 points. Barron posted 13 points and Rod Grizzard and Phil Ricci each tossed in 10 points. This game marked only the third time this season that all five Flight starters finished the game scoring 10 or more points.

Columbus returns home to host the Fayetteville Patriots on Monday. The Flight hosts Fayetteville on Tuesday in the final meeting between the teams in the regular season.
