Howes signs with Wave / Wave United

Milwaukee Wave United News Release
(Milwaukee, WI) The Milwaukee Wave / Wave United announced today that it has signed forward Greg Howes to a three-year indoor / outdoor contract which will keep him in Milwaukee through the 2005-06 indoor season. The 26-year old Howes has been a member of the Wave Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) squad since the 2000-01 season while spending three A-League (outdoor) seasons in Seattle (2000) and Portland (2001, 2002).
"I'm definitely looking forward to the new venture outdoors and the opportunity to stay in Milwaukee and play for Coach Kramer," said Howes. "I'm also very excited about staying with the Wave organization for the next three years."
Howes, a Tacoma, WA native who played college ball at Oregon State University, has had outstanding careers both indoors and outdoors since breaking in with the Seattle Sounders in 2000. He was the A-League's "Rookie-of-the-Year" his first season (when he finished tied for third in the league scoring race behind Milwaukee's Digital Takiwara and Charleston's Paul Conway) and followed that with two superb seasons in Portland. Since coming to the Wave he has been equally impressive: he was runner-up for the league's "Rookie-of-the-Year" award during his first campaign (2000-01) and has continued to be an impact player for the Wave ever since. Howes led the Wave in scoring this past season (102 points) and also played in his first All-Star Game last month in Milwaukee.
"The signing of Greg Howes not only represents the present, but more importantly it represents the future of the Wave and Wave United," said Keith Tozer, Head Coach of the Wave and Vice-President of Soccer Operations for the Wave / Wave United. "I firmly believe that Greg will become one of the cornerstones of Milwaukee professional soccer much like Victor Nogueira, Michael King, Steve Morris, and Peter Knezic."
"Greg's development over the past several years has been impressive," said Wave United Coach Art Kramer, who became familiar with Howes as the Wave's assistant coach the past several seasons. "His ability to beat defenders one v. one and shoot with either foot make him a valuable asset for our organization."
Wave United opens its first A-League season on Friday, May 16, 7:05 PM when it hosts the Minnesota Thunder at Uihlein Soccer Park. Art Kramer's team will also host the defending MLS champion Los Angeles Galaxy in an exhibition match on Sunday, May 18, 4:05 PM at Uihlein.
