How Sweep It Is
June 15, 2015 - West Coast League (WCL)
Kelowna Falcons News Release
The Kelowna Falcons powered their way to a 7-0 lead after 1 inning, and got a great relief effort from 3 pitchers to get a series sweep over the Medford Rogues.
The Falcons jumped all over starter Taylor Johnson, who issued 3 walks and gave up 4 hits, exiting with only 1 out in the 1st.
Justin Flores and Vinny Esposito had RBI doubles, while Brandon Oliver drove in a pair with a double of his own. Groundouts from Andre Jackson and Kirby McGuire also cashed in runs.
Starter Brady Miller would make his 1st start of the season, and looked good through 2 innings, only giving up a homerun to Nathan Etheridge. He struggled in the 3rd, walking a pair and throwing 2 wild pitches.
Jayse Bannister would come out of the pen, and on an error allowed a pair of runs, but settled in, going 5 innings, giving up no hits, and retiring the final 12 batters he faced.
Dalton Blackwell and Matt Kirk closed it down in the 8th and 9th. The four Falcons pitchers combined for a 2-hitter, and did not give up a hit over the last 25 batters, spanning 7 innings.
Brandon Grimsley hit his 1st homerun of the season to lead off the 3rd inning, and Oliver picked up his 3rd RBI of the night in the 7th to lead the offense.
Kelowna will take 2 days off before an exhibition tilt with the Okanagan Athletics on Wednesday at Elks. They return to WCL action Friday in Yakima Valley against the Pippins, before returning home June 22nd - 24th vs. Wenatchee. The 24th is the annual Firefighter's Night with funds raised going to the Burn Fund.
