Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON (Friday, Nov. 22, 2013) - The Houston Dynamo and Sporting Kansas City conlude the Eastern Conference Championship with the second leg tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. CT at Sporting Park in Kansas City, KS.
Saturday's game is the second in the two-game, aggregate score series. The team with more total goals over the two legs wins the series and will advance to MLS Cup 2013. The first leg, played at BBVA Compass Stadium on Nov. 9, resulted in a 0-0 draw.
Should the aggregate score remain tied at the end of regulation on Saturday, two 15-minute halves of extra time will be played. If still tied at the end of extra time, the series will be decided by penalty kicks.
The game will be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network and on Univision Deportes (Spanish) and can be heard on Yahoo Sports Radio 1560 AM and Baila 101.7 FM (Spanish).
The Dynamo opened the Eastern Conference Playoffs with a 3-0 win over the Montreal Impact on Oct. 31 at BBVA Compass Stadium. Houston reached its third straight Eastern Conference Championship with a 2-1 extra-time win over the New York Red Bulls on Nov. 6 for a 4-3 aggregate series win. Omar Cummings scored 14 minutes into extra time and goalkeeper Tally Hall made eight saves as the Dynamo advanced to their sixth conference championship in eight years.
Sporting Kansas City overturned a 2-1 first-leg deficit in the other Eastern Conference Semifinal series with a 3-1 extra-time victory on Nov. 6 at Sporting Park for a 4-3 aggregate series win over the New England Revolution.
The Eastern Conference Championship marks the third straight season Houston and Sporting Kansas City have met in the playoffs. The Dynamo secured a 2-0 single-leg win in the 2011 Eastern Conference Championship at Sporting Park before registering a 2-1 aggregate series victory in the 2012 Eastern Conference Semifinals. Last year, Houston won the first leg at BBVA Compass Stadium for a 2-0 series lead. In the second leg Sporting Kansas City pulled within a goal at Sporting Park but the Dynamo preserved the margin for a 2-1 series win.
Saturday's game is the tenth meeting between Houston and Sporting Kansas City since last July. Sporting KC snapped Houston's MLS record 36-game home undefeated streak with a 1-0 win at BBVA Compass Stadium on May 12. The clubs drew 1-1 in a rematch on May 26 at Sporting Park before playing to a 0-0 draw in their final regular season meeting on Oct. 9 in Houston. The clubs met five times last year, with three regular season games and two more in the playoffs.
