Houston Dynamo 2 Add Ryan Thompson to Coaching Staff

HOUSTON - Houston Dynamo 2 added Ryan Thompson to the coaching staff, the team announced today. Thompson will serve as an assistant coach for Dynamo 2 and director of goalkeeping.

Thompson comes to Houston with nearly 15 years of experience as a player and coach. Thompson spent three seasons with Austin Bold FC from the USL Championship as a player-coach prior to joining Dynamo 2. The 38-year-old first joined the organization as a player in 2018 and finished his tenure with the Bold as the head coach for the 2021 season.

The Kingston, Jamaica native was an assistant coach at the University of South Florida from 2017 to 2018. He was also an assistant at his alma mater, the University of Tampa, in 2010. He finished with 57 appearances for the Spartans during his three seasons with the team. Thompson was an All-American at the region, conference and national level in his junior season prior to turning professional.

During his playing career, the former shot stopper gained experience across the globe, including stints with Shamrock Rovers of Ireland's top division and AFC Eskilstuna from the Swedish first division. Thompson made 21 appearances in goal for the Rovers in 2011. Thompson also signed for Central FC from Trinidad and Tobago in 2017.

Thompson brings more than a decade of experience at the national team level to Dynamo 2. Thompson played in the 2015 Concacaf Gold Cup where he made key saves in Jamaica's 1-0 win over El Salvador to help The Reggae Boyz advance out of group play. Thompson also represented Jamaica at the U-20 and U-23 level.
