Charlotte Hounds News Release
The Charlotte Hounds suffered their third straight loss, a 15-7 rout by the Chesapeake Bayhawks in front of 8,192 fans at Navy Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland. Drew Westerveltwas named Bud Light Player of the game for his four goal, one assist performance.
The Bayhawks built up an early 7-1 advantage and never looked back. The first quarter was anchored by three goals from Westervelt and two from Matt Mackrides. The lone Hounds tally came from midfielder Brian Carroll. After making only three saves in the first quarter, starting goalie Joe Marra was replaced by Adam Ghitelman to start the second.
The Hounds finally got their first faceoff win of the game early in the second quarter and it led to a between-the-legs goal by Stephen Berger to make it 7-2. John Grant Jr. for the Bayhawks and Jovan Miller for the Hounds would each score a goal before the Bayhawks got two in a row from Ben Rubeor and Kyle Dixon to extend their lead to 10-3. Matt Danowski got a jump shot past Bayhawks goalie TC DiBartolo but Westervelt responded with his fourth of the game to give the Bayhawks the commanding 11-4 advantage going into halftime.
After more than eight minutes of scoreless play to start the third, Berger ripped a shot past DiBartolo from just inside the arc to bring the game to 11-5. But a goal from Steven Brooks gave the Bayhawks a 12-5 lead to carry into the fourth quarter.
The Bayhawks would extend that lead to 14-5 with goals from Danny Glading and Grant Jr. The Hounds got back on the board with a goal from Josh Amidon but it was matched by Brooks to keep a 15-6 Bayhawks lead. Jeremy Boltus would tally the final goal in what ended up a 15-7 loss for the Hounds.
The seven goals by the Hounds is a season low, as was their total of only 20 shots on goal. The team also went just 7-26 on faceoffs in the game. The Hounds (1-5) will return home Saturday, June 16 to face the defending champion Boston Cannons (4-2). The first meeting between these two teams was a 20-12 loss for the Hounds on the road in Week 2.
