Hounds Shore up Defense, Midfield in Supplemental Draft
December 16, 2015 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL)
Charlotte Hounds News Release
BOSTON, MA - Major League Lacrosse today held its 2015 Supplemental Draft, giving teams the opportunity to build out their protected rosters to a 35-man preseason roster. The draft consisted of 12 rounds and the Charlotte Hounds had 14 picks, including the fourth overall. With that pick the Hounds selected Colin Dunster, a midfielder out of Bryant University.
Dunster has two seasons of MLL experience, playing with the Denver Outlaws in 2014 and Chesapeake Bayhawks in 2015. In a combined 16 regular-season games, the midfielder recorded 13 goals and three assists.
The Hounds fell short of their goals in 2015, finishing in 8th place with a 3-11 record. General Manager Mike Cerino knew that the team needed to add competition to the close defense position and depth to the midfield during the offseason. Each of those issues has now been addressed.
Prior to the start of the Supplemental Draft, the Hounds executed four separate trades. The first move sent veteran defenseman Joe Cinosky to the Atlanta Blaze in exchange for a fourth round 2016 Collegiate Draft pick. The Hounds then sent long pole Mason Poli to the Boston Cannons for a third round 2016 Collegiate Draft pick. Charlotte flipped the third round collegiate pick to the New York Lizards in exchange for goalie Charlie Cipriano. In their final move of the morning, the Hounds swapped Supplemental Draft picks with the Chesapeake Bayhawks, moving the No. 2 and No. 20 overall picks for the No. 4 and No. 13 overall selections.
Below is a complete roundup of the Hounds' supplemental draftees, who will join the members of the previously announced protected roster at training camp in early April and vie for a spot on the team's 25-man active roster or six-man practice squad.
