
Hounds now 7-0 after shootout loss

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS - The Youngstown SteelHounds tasted defeat for the first time this season on Sunday afternoon as they lost to the Corpus Christi Rayz 3-2 in a shootout.
Things started off great for Youngstown as Eric Przepiorka scored his fourth goal of the season at 1:37 into the game to make it 1-0. Adam Smyth ended the period with his third goal in three games to put the Hounds up 2-0 after one period.
The game remained 2-0 until Evan Stoflet scored his second goal of the season with 38 seconds left to make it 2-1 after two periods. Youngstown held the lead late into the third period until Adam Hogg took advantage of a two-on-one and beat Andy Franck with 2:37 left to tie the game at two.
For the second time this season the Hounds and Rayz went to a shootout but this one went the Rayz' way as Brent Howarth beat Andy Franck in the fourth round to put Corpus Christi up 2-1 and give them the 3-2 shootout victory. Both teams finished 0-8 on the power play and Youngstown out shot the Rayz 37-34.
The Rayz have never lost to Youngstown in regulation and are now 6-0-3 lifetime against the SteelHounds. The Hounds now 7-0-1 (15 points) have six games left on this road trip starting Friday night at Austin at 8:35. Corpus Christi improves to 2-5-1 (5 points) on the season. Youngstown's seven straight victories is the best start in franchise history. They are still on pace to catch the 11 game unbeaten streak set by last year's team back in February.
