Tupelo FireAnts News Release
With the final away game in a four game consecutive road swing, the Tupelo FireAnts lost to the Ohio Valley Greyhounds, 44-21, Saturday night in Wheeling, WV.
While Tupelo played tough, they were unable to overcome the bark of this outstanding Greyhounds team.
The FireAnts scoring efforts were led by FB Chris Newsome with a 1-yard run into the end zone in the first quarter. RB Chris Rainey gained a touchdown in the third quarter on a 6-yard run, and another 1-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.
On the defensive end, the 'Ants gained two fumble recoveries in the game, in the third by DB Bobby Hill and in the fourth by DB Kenzaki Jones.
The 'Ants drop to 3-6 overall while the Greyhounds improve to 8-0 on the season, remaining on top of the Atlantic North Division. Despite tonight's loss, the FireAnts are not totally out of playoff contention, trailing the Louisiana Rangers in a close race for the top spot in the Atlantic East Division. The 'Ants have yet to play the Rangers this season, with their first meeting at the BancorpSouth Center coming this week, Saturday, June 8th starting at 7:05pm.
