Youngstown SteelHounds News Release

The Youngstown SteelHounds finished their regular season on a sour note as on Sunday they lost to the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs by a score of 6-4.

The Mudbugs quickly jumped out to a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Chris Brassard, Jason Basile and Joe Ori with all three goals coming within six minutes of the opening face-off. Jeff Christian scored to make it 3-1 but Jason Williamson and Karlis Zrrnis quickly answered to make it 5-1 Bugs after one period of play.

John Wheaton scored the only goal of the second period as the Hounds went into intermission down 5-2. For Wheaton its first goal since going on the injured reserve list back on January 20th.

In the third period Jeff Alcombrack scored on the power play with 5:57 to play to make it 5-3 but Dan Wildfong wiped out the comeback with a goal just 52 seconds later to make it 6-3 for Bossier-Shreveport. Matt Hanson scored with the extra attacker on to make it 6-4 but by that time it was too late as Ken Carroll made 34 saves on 38 shots to preserve the win for the Mudbugs who have clinched home ice advantage throughout the President's Cup Playoffs.

The Hounds finish the regular season 34-20-10 and will go into the playoffs as the fifth seed.
