Hough and Zimmerman Named 2019 NECBL All-Star Game Broadcasters
July 23, 2019 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) News Release
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - After a vote by their fellow broadcasting peers and representative of each team's front office, Newport's Stephen Hough and Sanford's Ryan Zimmerman have been selected as the 2019 New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) All-Star Game play-by-play duo, as announced by the league Tuesday.
The two broadcasters will take their talents to Montpelier Recreation Field this Sunday and team up to call all of the afternoon and evening's festivities, including the Home Run Derby and, of course, the main event of the All-Star Game itself.
"I would like to personally congratulate Stephen and Ryan on earning the prestigious honor to broadcast Sunday's All-Star Game," Commissioner Sean McGrath said. "They know as well as anyone how competitive this industry is and how high the level of broadcasting is in the NECBL. They should feel very proud to be recognized for their expertise by their peers and NECBL executives. This honor comes to those who work hard, are selfless, and represent their organizations in a professional manner throughout the NECBL. It is obvious that they both have made great impressions on many of us, as have all of our tremendous broadcasters this summer who aspire - like the players on the field every night - to one day have the opportunity to work at the highest level of this great sport."
The NECBL, in conjunction with Presto Sports, will offer free broadcast coverage of Sunday's action on the NECBL Broadcast Network. Video and audio presentations will be available online and on mobile devices.
Stephen Hough
An Omaha, Nebraska native, Stephen Hough is a recent University of Nebraska-Lincoln graduate making his first broadcasting appearance in the NECBL All-Star Game.
This is Hough's first summer in Newport but he does have summer ball experience prior to being the voice of the Gulls. In the summer of 2017, he was the Director of Broadcasting and Sales for the Boulder Collegians out of the Rocky Mountain Baseball League where he was the voice for all of the Collegians games. Hough got his start in broadcasting at UNL where he covered Huskers sports as a play-by-play and color commentator for BTN+. He covered almost every sport for Nebraska, including baseball, softball, basketball, and soccer for the Big Ten Network, while also covering football for 90.3 KRNU. He also had two radio shows for a combined 2-1/2 years.
Hough hopes to be a professional broadcaster, preferably in baseball or work in sports radio as a sports talk show host.
Ryan Zimmerman
Ryan Zimmerman is a rising senior at the University of California, Berkeley majoring in applied mathematics and minoring in Spanish. He is in his first summer as the Director of Broadcasting and Media with the Sanford Mainers.
At school, Zimmerman serves as the Assistant Director of Sports Programming at 90.7 FM KALX - Berkeley's university and listener-supported radio station. There, he provides play-by-play broadcast coverage for California Golden Bears football, men's and women's basketball, as well as baseball.
Zimmerman also hosts a weekly radio show called "Bear Talk" where he holds discussions with other members of the station's sports department about the biggest topics in Cal and Bay Area Sports."
