West Coast Hotshots News Release

Bend, OR--When Central Oregon Hotshots Head Coach JJ Anderson began recruiting players last season, his first instinct was to contact in-state college coaches who had players with local ties. One of those players was Oregon Tech power forward, Alex Carlson, a Culver High-native who prepped for current Summit High coach Curt Shelley.

Nothing panned out last year, but upon graduation, Carlson returned home to Central Oregon, took in a Hotshots game and got the fire to keep his playing career alive. He contacted Anderson this winter and Wednesday, Anderson announced the signing of the 6'7", 235 lb. forward to the team.

"Alex comes from a very successful program. He's won a National Championship and he's been an all-league player for a championship program - that says a lot about him as a player. It's exciting to bring in another talented player from the Central Oregon community who can have a positive impact in our organization."

After leading Culver to 5th place in the state tournament in 2000 and receiving All-State and All-Tournament Team honors, Carlson moved on to OIT where he helped lead the team to the 2004 NAIA National Championship. He received All-Conference and Honorable Mention All-American accolades averaging 12.3 PPG and 7.7 rebounds. As a senior and team captain, Carlson again led OIT to the NAIA Final Four and received All-conference recognition averaging 13.6 PPG, 6.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists.

"Alex has won at every level," stated Anderson. "He understands the importance of the little things and knows how to play the game of basketball. He'll bring an intelligent inside presence to our team and a contagious work ethic that is vital to a team's success and chemistry. I'm really looking forward to Alex joining the Hotshots."

Carlson's college teammate, swingman Michael Nunes, recently signed with the Salem Stampede, an expansion team in the IBL. Salem kicks off their inaugural season at Central Oregon on March 24th. The Hotshots' first game is March 17th at Summit High School versus in-state rivals, the Portland Chinooks.
