Horsemen Beat Freedom to Gain Playoff Spot

The Lexington Horsemen controlled their playoff destiny last week, and they took care of business by defeating the Fort Wayne Freedom 59-42 in Rupp Arena. With the win, the Horsemen locked up the fourth seed in the Atlantic Conference playoffs, and will face top seed Ohio Valley on July 12 in Wheeling, WV in the first round. The other side of the Atlantic Conference bracket features Atlantic South division champion Lake Charles, who will face third seed Houma on July 12 as well.

This week, the Horsemen will wrap up their regular season with a trip to Fort Wayne for a rematch of last week's battle.. With a win, the Horsemen will finish with a 10-win season in their first year of operation. The Atlantic Conference playoff picture:

Ohio Valley 13-0 (East division champion, top seed)
Lake Charles 12-2 (South division champion, second seed)
Houma 10-4 (Wild card, third seed)
Lexington 9-4 (Wild card, fourth seed)
Fort Wayne 7-6

HORSEMEN STATISTICAL LEADERS

The Horsemen continue to put up impressive numbers in the NIFL, with a number of players among the league's statistical leaders. QB Dusty Bonner remains among the top quarterbacks in the league, and ranks third overall in total offense (202.0 YPG), passing yards (198.7 YPG), quarterback rating (108.4), and passing touchdowns (59).

RB Martez Johnson continues to improve upon his strong all-around season, as he is now second in the league in scoring (196 points), fourth in receptions (5.46 RPG), sixth in all-purpose yards (100.2 YPG), and ninth in rushing (43.2 YPG).

WR Carlos Johnson ranks seventh in the league in receptions (4.85 RPG) and ninth in receiving yards (52.2 YPG).

Defensively, Lexington's defensive backs are putting together top numbers as well. DB Nate Green, on the heels of a three-interception day, is now third in the league in picks with 8 on the season. DB Ray McLaurin is fourth in the NIFL in passes defensed, with 19, leading teammates Green and Champ Kelly, who are tied for eigth with 17 passes defensed on the year.

K Brian Sivinski remains fourth in the league in PATs made, with 70 on the season.
