Gary Steelheads News Release
GARY, Indiana (January 10, 2006) - The Gary Steelheads and CBA all-star guard Jimmie "Snap" Hunter will be featured on the sports television program "HoopsTV," which airs nationally over the Fox Sports Network. The program is produced for Fox by (215) Sports & Entertainment.
A production team for the program taped several team practices, and joined the ballclub on its bus trip for a meeting with the rival Rockford Lightning on December 11th. The Steelheads lost a tight ballgame, 124-123. Hunter scored 39 points in the game, with 3 assists and 5 steals. The game ranks as one of three in which "Snap" has scored 39 points to date this season. It also ranks as one of the eight individual highest-scoring games in the CBA this season, with five of those being authored by Hunter.
"Jimmie "Snap" Hunter is well known as a "basketball legend" among hoop heads like those in our viewing audience, but few know how he became a legend," said HoopsTV executive producer Carey Smith. "We wanted to shoot this feature so that HoopsTV viewers could see that Jimmie is still ballin' and also and also discover the basketball roots that made Jimmie a "legend.""
Beginning the week, Hunter lead the CBA in scoring with a 27.5 ppg. average. He also ranked 8th in the CBA in assists (5.4 apg.), 2nd in steals (2.0 spg.), 7th in three point shooting (.441) and 7th in blocked shots (1.0 bpg.).
Last Friday, January 6th, "Snap" shattered his own club individual single-game scoring record (48 points) with a 50-point performance at Albany. He also broke the club record for free throws in a game with 19. He went on to score 105 points over a 72-hour period.
Hunter's 19 free throws made on Jan. 6 was also a CBA season-high, while his 16 field goals made on Dec. 11 vs. Rockford is tied for tops in the CBA this year. He has eight games of 30-plus points this season.
On Jan. 4, Hunter was named to his third-consecutive CBA All-Star team and will represent Gary on the Eastern Conference All-Star squad. For the second time this season, Hunter was named CBA Player of the Week on Monday, January 9th.
