CBA Announces Replacement Players for 2006 All-Star Classic

Boise, ID (January 10, 2006) - The Continental Basketball Association announced today that Gary Steelheads center Chris Alexander and Albany Patroons forward James Thomas will serve as replacement players for the upcoming All-Star Classic to be held on Tuesday, Jan. 17, at Qwest Arena in Boise, Idaho.

The two players will serve as replacements on the Eastern Conference squad due to recent injuries and transactions. Alexander (Iowa State '03) and Thomas (Texas '04) increase the number of former Big 12 players in the All-Star game to seven, with five playing on the Western Conference squad.

Alexander, who is in his first year of playing in the CBA, was traded to Gary from the Dakota Wizards on Dec. 21. The 7-foot-1, 260-pound center has played 12 games with Dakota and seven with Gary. In those seven games with the Steelheads, Alexander is averaging 8.9 points and 11.7 rebounds. Overall this season, he is averaging 8.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 19 games. He is shooting 53.0 pct. from the field and 70.2 pct. from the free-throw line. He had a season-high 16 points twice this season, once while with Dakota (12/03) vs. his future team, Gary, and once while with Gary (12/30) vs. Albany. He had a career-high 18 rebounds in his first game with Gary (12/23) vs. Sioux Falls.

Thomas is also a first-year CBA player. He has played six games for Albany after signing with the Patroons on Dec. 23. He is averaging 17.8 points and 11.7 rebounds in those six games and has scored 20-plus points in three of those games, including a season-high 28 points (12/29) vs. Rockford. He had a season-high 19 rebounds in the same game. Thomas has played 26 games in the NBA over the past two seasons for Atlanta, Philadelphia and Portland. He averaged 2.4 points and 3.4 rebounds in 11 games last season with Portland and Atlanta. He had played in 15 games this season for the 76ers, averaging 1.5 points and 2.1 rebounds. Thomas was the second overall pick of the 2004 CBA College Draft by Yakama.

Activities begin Monday, Jan. 16, when the Western Conference team holds practice from 6 - 7 p.m. (MT), before the Eastern Conference team goes from 7 - 8 p.m. at Qwest Arena. Both practices are free and open to the public.

This year's 22nd CBA All-Star Classic will be held at Qwest Arena in Boise, Idaho, on Tuesday, Jan. 17. The event's title sponsor is Athletes.com and will be hosted by the Idaho Stampede. The Hopkins Financial Slam Dunk competition and the Long Distance Shootout will begin at 6 p.m. (MT) with the All-Star game beginning at 7:15 p.m. (MT). Doors open at 5 p.m. (MT).
