Casper Ghosts News Release

CASPER, Wyoming - All it took was a little luck and a little duck for the Casper Rockies to end their season opening losing streak at 9 games. The Rockies defeated Ogden 4-3 Thursday to notch their first win of the season.

After starting the season with a fowl 0-and-9 record the Casper Rockies decided to drake in some good luck. So the front office found the perfect anecdote in Anatidae, Homer the Duck. Homer's presence came through late in Thursday's game.

The Raptors and Rockies mirrored each other for five innings. With each team scoring one run in the 2nd inning and two runs in the 5th. Ogden RHP Cal Stanke and Casper LHP Stephen Shao then engaged in a pitcher's duel. Each throwing up zeroes until the 7th, when Casper broke the 3-3 tie when INF Zack Murry laid down a bunt to score Orlando Sandoval from third.

RHP Randall Taylor came on in relief of Shao in the 8th inning. After getting out of an 8th inning jam, the Raptors tested Taylor again in the 9th. Ogden got runners to second and third with two outs, but Taylor got INF Elian Herrera to groundout to second and the Rockies first victory of the season was official.

Taylor earned his first pro save. Shao (1-0) earned his first professional victory, pitching 4.1 innings and allowing just 2 runs. Casper starter Jeff Fischer pitched the first 3.1 innings giving up just one run on two hits.

Seven Rockies starters had hits in the game. Zack Murry led everyone with two hits. Ogden was led by INF Elian Herrera who finished with one hit and 2 RBI's. OF Travis Vetters had two hits in the loss.

Since Homer the Duck came through in his first game with the Rockies, the front office has decided to keep him around. So when you visit Mike Lansing this summer, make sure to say hello to our new "Director of Luck," Homer the Duck.
