Lancaster JetHawks News Release

LANCASTER, CA - Grant Hogue knocked four hits and scored four runs in his first game as the leadoff hitter to lead the JetHawks to an 8-7 rubber game victory over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Saturday night at The Hangar.

Hogue singled three times and tripled to extend his hitting streak to 14 games and raise his batting average to .611 in 13 games this season. The Mississippi native also stole two bases in the game and drove in a run.

Down 2-0 in the bottom of the first, Lancaster took advantage of three walks and a defensive miscue to come back and take the lead. Hogue led off with a walk, stole second and scored on a Domingo Santana single. Later in the inning, with the bases loaded, Rafael Valenzuela hit a hard ground ball that went under the glove of second baseman Scott Wingo allowing two runs to score.

They added two more in the second. Hogue singled, stole second and scored on a George Springer single to center field. Springer advanced to third on two wild pitches and scored on an Angel Sanchez balk. Sanchez (6-4) allowed eight runs - five earned - in a season-low 2 2/3 innings pitched. The right-hander issued a season-high four walks.

Lancaster scored its final runs in the third inning. Enrique Hernandez started the inning with an infield single, moved to third on a Rene Garcia single and scored on an Alex Todd sacrifice fly. Hogue came to the plate and drove Garcia home with a triple. He would later score on passed ball and the JetHawks led 8-2.

The Quakes, who scored two runs in the first inning on a C.J. Retherford home run, hopped on the comeback trail in the fourth inning. Chris Jacobs led off the inning with a solo home run to make the score 8-3.

In the sixth inning, Joc Pederson hit his third home run of the season - his second off of starter Zach Grimmett - to put the Quakes down 8-4. Grimmett (3-5) left after the sixth inning having allowed four runs on eight hits and a season-high three home runs to bring his home runs allowed total to 14 on the season.

Kirk Clark relieved Grimmett in the seventh inning and allowed two runs on a Retherford double. Clark allowed another run in the eighth inning on a Leon Landry RBI-single. Landry tried to take second base on a throw to the plate and was thrown out at second base to end the inning.

Andrew Robinson tossed a perfect ninth inning with two strikeouts to pick up his fifth save of the season.

The JetHawks (3-7, 40-40) took two of three from the Quakes and will head to Modesto to begin a three game series with the Nuts on Sunday night at 6:05 pm. Nick Tropeano will make his California League debut against Nuts right-hander Leuris Gomez.
