Hogges take down Kings

WILDER, KY (July 14, 2007)-- In the first international soccer match to be played at the Town and Country Sports Complex, the Bermuda Hogges scored three goals in the first half against the Cincinnati Kings and made them stand up as Hogges defeated the Kings, 3-2, Saturday night in frontof 1,382 in United Soccer Leagues Second Division action.

The Hogges' first two goals came from forward Stephen Astwood, the first in the 12th minute with an assist from Jared Peniston, and the second in the 20th minute with the assist from Damon Ming. The Hogges' final goal of the half came off a corner kick when Kings goalie Craig Salvati was screened and couldn't get to the ball that was just nudged in by Peniston. Clevon Hill was credited with the assist.

In the second half, the Kings' offense finally came alive when the Kings' David Horne made a strong move inside to score the unassisted goal in the 68th minute. The Kings scored again eight minutes later when Mike McGinlay converted the assist from Philip Glaser to put the Kings within one, but that was as close as they could come.

The Kings had 19 shots on goal to the Hogges' 13, and Salvati was credited with three saves while Bermuda goalie Nigel Burgess had eight saves.

The win improves the Hogges' record to 2-9-1, the one tie coming against the Kings in Bermuda in May. Cincinnati now falls to 2-8-4 on the season. The Kings play a midweek game next Wednesday night at Harrisburg before returning to Town & Country Soccer Complex Friday, July 20, to play the Richmond Kickers.
