Chicago Hitmen News Release
Rolling Meadows, Illinois - Today marked the beginning of the NAHL's Chicago Hitmen's final tryout camp as they work to roster the 2010 - 2011 team. This process started for the first year NAHL team May 14th at the International Ice Center in Romeoville, IL; when team President Mark Hammersmith dropped the ceremonial puck that began a new era for the hockey Hitmen, opening the first ever predraft tryout camp. There were 114 players assembled for that event. Every player drafted by the Hitmen in this years NAHL draft participated at that camp.
This weekends main camp has 4 scrimmage teams, totaling 60 players, all hoping to impress Head Coach Steve Pronger and Hitmen hockey staff, earning a chance to play in the Allstar game on Sunday. All tendered and drafted players along with invited free agents hope to make the cut and be one of 25 players who will be invited back to start full team practices August 16th.
The camp got under way with practices starting at 6pm and will be followed by scrimmage games on Saturday and a final Allstar game Sunday morning at 9:30am. The final roster will be selected at this time.
All sessions are at West Meadows Ice Arena and are free and open to the public.
Once the final roster is set after the final camp, many players will need homes. If you think you may be able to help a young man pursue his dream of playing in the NAHL by being a billet family, go to chicagohitmenhockey.com and click on the "housing" tab.
