Highflyer Re-Signs with Magic

Moncton Magic News Release
(Moncton, NB.) One of the most athletic, explosive players in the National Basketball League of Canada will be back in Moncton for the 2019-2020 season. The Magic announced today that guard Marcus Lewis has re-signed with the team for the upcoming 2019-2020 season, marking the fifth player thus far from last seasons team to return to the Hub City in hopes of defending its NBL Canada title.
Lewis, a 6'5" guard from Streamwood, IL, joined the Magic in mid January last season, quickly becoming a fan favourite for his high-flying dunks, and constant play above the rim. He started 21 games, last season, averaging 11.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and just under 2 steals per game. Head Coach and GM of Player Operations Joe Salerno believes Lewis brought much more to the table aside from his statistics.
"Marcus is an extremely special player. He has the physical and mental abilities to do things other players just can't do. In my opinion he was the best on ball defender in the entire league last season. He had the toughest job on our team night in and night out, drawing the top defensive assignments against some very talented players here in the NBL, and he always answered the bell, while still producing on the offensive end of the floor" commented Salerno.
The high-flying Lewis says he is looking forward to returning to Moncton for the upcoming season.
"I'm glad I could re-sign in a place like Moncton, that showed me and my teammates so much love last season. I'm just hoping we can come together and return the favor by bringing another 'chip home to Moncton" said Lewis.
Salerno feels Lewis was one of the most important pieces of the puzzle last season, when it came to winning the league title.
"He was a huge part of our success in the post season last year. Again, as a coach, just knowing you have a weapon like Marcus, that can go out and lock down another team's number 1 scorer is a huge advantage. Every night, he was asked to defend guys such as Frank Bartley, Terry Thomas, Mike Poole, Carl English, and always managed to do a heck of a job with it. This was a big part of our success last season, and we are beyond thrilled to know Marcus will be back with us for another year."
The addition of Lewis marks the eighth player the Magic have announced for the upcoming season, joining returnees Denzell Taylor, Jason Calliste, Wayne McCullough, and Corey Allmond, to go along with NBL Canada Veteran Jeremiah Mordi, and newcomers Dinjiyl Walker and Brandon Neel.
