Reno 1868 FC News Release
RENO, Nev. - Reno 1868 FC forward Corey Hertzog has been named to the USL's All-League Second Team. This is the fourth time in his career that Hertzog has earned the honor. Hertzog now owns the fourth-most career goals in USL history.
"It was a great season for Corey. We brought him here to score goals and that's exactly what he did," said head coach Ian Russell. "He was a leader on and off the field, always working hard in matches and in training."
The 29-year-old had a career season in 2019, earning career highs for goals (19) and assists (6) in his first year with Reno. Last season, as a member of Saint Louis FC, Hertzog scored just four goals on a mere 41 shots. His 2018 conversion rate of 9.8% was more than doubled this season, converting on 23.8% of his 80 total shots.
Hertzog was able to double his assist total from 2018 to 2019 as well, from three to six.
"He obviously helped the team with his attacking prowess, but put in a lot of work defensively as well," added Russell. Hertzog was the only player for Reno to appear in all 35 matches for the club, tallying 2,768 minutes of action in 32 starts.
Hertzog's 18 regular season goals tied a club record, but including his playoff goal against Sacramento Hertzog scored more goals than anyone else in a single season in club history.
Hertzog is the fourth ever from Reno to earn All-League honors, joining Jimmy Ockford as second team members. Dane Kelly and Chris Wehan earned first-team honors in 2017.
