May 21, 2004 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Maryland NightHawks News Release
Hershey, Pa. Andrew Haines, ABA Hershey PA owner, today named James "Twiggy" Sanders as Head Coach for pro basketball team scheduled to begin play in November. According to Haines, "We couldn't be more pleased - "Twiggys" knowledge of basketball and his on-the-court entertainment background should make every game exciting and fun. We will have a great team."
"Twiggy" is a native of Raleigh, NC and a graduate of Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC. The world knows him as the lovable star showman of Harlem Globetrotters fame. He toured the world with the "Good Will Ambassadors" from 1974 to 1991 and will soon be inducted into the Ring of Legends (the Globetrotter Hall of Fame) joining the likes of Goose Tatum, Meadowlark Lemon, Marquis Haynes, Tex Harrison, Curley Neal and Mannie Jackson.
"Twiggy" has played and coached on alla three levels and for the past four years was an assistant coach of Morris Brown College and most recently Shaw University. He also has head coaching experience at Bonner Academy and two years with the USBL Raleigh Cougars.
Sanders added, "My mission is three pronged - to put a quality squad on the floor and try to get a bunch of wins, to provide our fans and the league with an exciting, fun team to watch and be proud of, and to provide an atmosphere of growth for our players on and off the court as they endeavor to claw their way into the NBA."
