Heroes, Amateur Baseball and Pirate Ships Highlight Saints First Home Playoff Game Presented by Ecol

ST. PAUL, MN (September 11, 2015) - The St. Paul Saints will honor volunteer medic Bruce Stafford along with the history of amateur baseball in Minnesota and unveil a unique addition to CHS Field, the ballpark selected as the Best New Ballpark in all of baseball by Ballpark Digest. It all takes place during Game 3 of the American Association Semi-Final presented by Ecolab.

The Saints and Sioux City Explorers shift venues after the Saints dropped the first two games of the best-of-five series at Lewis and Clark Park. Prior to the September 12, 7:05 p.m. game, three unique moments will take place. Bruce Stafford, who worked as a volunteer medic at Midway Stadium and passed away in November, 2014 will be honored prior to the game. His friend Dave Beecham, with Bruce's wife Donna wearing the Stafford number seven jersey by his side, will throw out the first pitch. The moment will highlight the Woodbury Community Foundation that is starting a Legacy Fund in the name of the Friends of Bruce Stafford. The Legacy Fund is meant to provide funds for Woodbury Public Safety Department Canine officers.

The winningest pitcher in Saints history, Charlie Ruud, will step onto the CHS Field mound for the first time. His Dundas Dukes amateur baseball team just won the Class B State Championship. Along with Ruud, many of his teammates will be in attendance including another former Saints pitcher, Todd Mathison.

Finally, the biggest unveil at CHS Field since it opened will take place around 5:00 p.m. in the Treasure Island Party Deck down the right field line. This multi-tiered group area that has been filled on a nightly basis, rented out by corporate groups, will get a little bit of a makeover. A large pirate ship will now adorn the Treasure Island Party Deck and representatives from Treasure Island and the Saints will christen their new ship.

The ship is 60 feet long and 18 feet wide and features two working cannons. The full rigged ship flies the Treasure Island flags and the Toucan mascot is on one of the masts, along with the customary mermaid on the bow. The Party Deck will accommodate up to 150 people and can be reserved for groups that would like to have their own private ship to have fun and watch the game.

Tickets for Game 3 of the American Association Semi-Final are currently on sale and can be purchased on Friday until 6:00 p.m., on the day of the game beginning at 10:00 a.m. or at saintsbaseball.com. Treasure Island Berm tickets will go on sale in person, at the box office at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. If the Saints win Game 3, tickets for Game 4 on Sunday, September 13 at 5:05 p.m. will immediately go on sale following the game.
