Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Fayetteville SwampDogs are pleased to announce they have added another power bat to their lineup in the form of Chowan University infielder Tanner Woods.

Woods, a sophomore from Newport News, Va., has been one of the best hitters in the Hawks lineup this season, hitting .338, with four home runs and a team-leading 12 doubles, despite missing 11 games. Woods also boasts 15 walks and 26 RBIs, the second- and third-best marks on the team, respectively.

Arguably, Woods' finest game of his sophomore season came on March 22nd at Virginia State University, where he went 2-4, scoring twice, and driving in five runs with a double and a home run.

After a freshman season in which he batted .301 for Chowan in 2014, Woods was named Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Rookie of the Year, Second Team All-CIAA third baseman, and First Team All-Rookie CIAA third baseman.

The Chowan Hawks are 19-19 on the 2015 season, and are 9-7 in conference play. The Hawks play in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association in Division II of the NCAA.

The Fayetteville SwampDogs are in their 15th season playing in the Coastal Plain League. The SwampDogs are one of the most successful franchises in the league's history, making the Petitt Cup Playoffs eight times in the past 10 seasons, reaching the championship round three times. The SwampDogs boast 84 alumni taken in the draft and have produced six players who have gone on to play in Major League Baseball. The SwampDogs open their season on Tuesday, May 26th with a 7:05 pm tilt with the Morehead City Marlins at J.P. Riddle Stadium.
