Bloomington Thunder News Release

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Bloomington Edge fell behind early and never recovered as they lost 58-27 to the Lincoln Haymakers in Champions Professional Indoor Football League action on Saturday night at the Pershing Center. The loss ends a two-game Edge winning streak.

A Bloomington mistake put the Haymakers on the board first as a bad snap was recovered by the hosts' Marcus Miles in the end zone. The teams traded interceptions and Lincoln increased their lead to 10-0 on a 38-yard field goal by Benny Hanaphy for the first quarter scoring.

The Edge finally scored in the first minute of the second quarter on a four-yard carry by Andre Raymond to cut the deficit to 10-7, but the Defenders scored four straight times on a 33-yard field goal by Hanaphy, two touchdown passes from quarterback Nick Rhodes of 25 yards to Jacarious Lucas and 35 yards to Travis Ribbing, followed by a 45-yard field goal by Hanaphy as the first half clock expired to give Lincoln a 30-7 advantage at the break.

The Haymakers increased the lead to 37-7 shortly after the intermission on a one-play drive, a 45-yard run by Ribbing. The Edge countered on the next possession with a five-yard run by Charles Dowdell to cut the margin to 37-13, but the Haymakers quickly answered with an 11-yard touchdown pass from Rhodes to Lucas with 9:05 left in the third period to build their lead to 44-17. A 10-yard scoring pass to Troy Brookins with only 28 seconds remaining in the chapter gave Lincoln a 51-19 lead through three quarters.

Bloomington struck first in the fourth quarter on Raymond's nine-yard touchdown reception from Dowdell, who connected with De'Andre Eagle for the two-point conversion to cut the deficit to 51-27 with 12:23 left. A Rhodes 12-yard keeper with 1:22 left sealed the win for the Haymakers.

The offense for the Haymakers (3-5) was led by Rhodes on 8-of-13 through the air with one interception and four touchdowns for 125 yards, 71 of which were to Lucas on four catches with two touchdowns. Ribbing led Haymakers rushers with 81 yards and one touchdown on 11 carries.

For the Edge (2-5), Dowdell was 15-of-34 with two interceptions for 150 yards and one touchdown. The top Edge receiver was Marcus Lewis with 96 yards on nine receptions. Raymond led the Edge on the ground with 52 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries. Eric Tapley led the Edge defense with 9.5 tackles.
