Lowell Spinners News Release
LOWELL, Massachusetts - On June 9th , The Lowell Spinners will be contributing to the efforts of the Haverhill Senior Baseball league to continue their season.
The remainder of the season was cancelled after a May 14th shooting which took place at Swasey Field in Haverhill during the first inning of a Haverhill Senior Baseball game.
Both teams on the field turned to see people scattering from a nearby basketball court.
No players were injured in the shooting, but President Larry O'Brien has cancelled the rest of the season as a safety precaution. The league is now scrambling to reschedule as many games as possible.
On Thursday, June 9th , the Lowell Spinners will host two teams from the Haverhill Senior Baseball League to play a game at LeLacheur Park. The players will use the home and away team clubhouses, sit in the large team dugouts, have their headshots featured on the video board during at bats, and be cheered on by the Spinners mascot, the Canaligator.
"These kids should be able to play the game they love without having to worry about safety. We are excited to offer them the full professional baseball experience," said Spinners Assistant General Manager Justin Williams. The game will be hosted at LeLacheur Park June 9, 2016 at 5pm.
