Hartzell Commits to Quinnipiac University

Sioux Falls, SD--The Sioux Falls Stampede announced today that goaltender Eric Hartzell has committed to Quinnipiac University for the 2009-10 season.

A native of White Bear Lake, MN, Hartzell is in his second season with the Stampede. He is currently 13-15-2 on the year with a 3.16 GAA and a .906 save percentage. He ranks first in the league in total saves (882) and third in minutes played (1783:41).

Hartzell has been named USHL Goaltender-of-the-Week three times this season, including back-to-back weeks in January. He holds Stampede records for most shutouts in a season (5) and consecutive minutes played without allowing a goal (201:06), both set last season.

While at Quinnipiac, Hartzell will join former Stampede defensemen Jake Bauer and Zach Hansen. Quinnipiac University is located in Hamden, CT and are members of the ECAC Conference. The Bobcats are in their 10th season as a Division I program and are currently 14-10-2 on the season.

Hartzell becomes the eighth Stampede player to commit to a Division I program this season. The Stampede organization has helped over 125 players secure scholarships at the Division I level since their inaugural season in 1999.

The Stampede return to action tomorrow (Friday) night when they travel to Lincoln to face the Stars at 7:05 PM. The Herd return home next weekend for two games, Friday, February 13th and Saturday, February 14th at 7:05 PM.
