Fayetteville Patriots News Release

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Adam Harrington led all scorers with 24 points and helped the Riverdragons to their league-best twelfth straight victory over the Patriots Saturday night, 90-86. In a battle that came down to the last seconds of the game, sharp shooting by the Riverdragons spoiled the Patriots chance for their fourth win of the season.

Fayetteville was down by thirteen at the half, but a motivating speech by Head Coach Mike Brown helped the team get back into the game.

“I told the guys you gotta have pride,” said Coach Brown. “This is your job. Every time you step on the court you have to do your job. This is your resume and you’re trying to impress people. The guys came out with a lot of pride and intensity and we did a good job the 2nd half.”

Mike King helped lead the comeback with all of his 17 points coming in the second half. He and Ernest Brown led the Patriots with 17 a piece. The Patriots took the lead for a short time at the end of the third quarter and the beginning of the fourth, but Harrington, Reed Rawlings and Derrick Zimmerman hit key three-pointers down the stretch to pull ahead at the end.

King hit a two-pointer with 16 seconds to go to pull the Patriots within two, but the Riverdragons hit their free throws to keep Fayetteville from the victory.

Columbus had four other players in double figures besides Harrington. Rawlings, Obinna Ekezie and Kitwana Rhymer all had 12 points. Ricky Minard had 10 points.

The Patriots had five players in double figures. Along with Brown and King, Jon Smith contributed 14 points and David Young had 10. Tang Hamilton had 13 points. Omar Cook had a game-high nine assists.

The Patriots (3-15) travel to take on Asheville (9-6) on the road this Tuesday January 11 at the Asheville Civic Center. Game time is 7 p.m. The Riverdragons head back home to get ready for the NBDL’s Martin Luther King Columbus Showcase next weekend. They will face the Altitude on Sunday at 5 p.m. For more information, log onto nbdl.com.
